  • Bing Crosby appeared in the film because at the time, he was a partial owner (approximately 15%) of the Pittsburgh Pirates .

  • Baseball greats Ty Cobb and Joe DiMaggio also have uncredited cameos in the film.

  • Much of the film is shot in the Forbes Field , the former home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers , demolished in 1971, when the Pirates and Steelers moved to Three Rivers Stadium .

  • In one scene, the term "rhubarb" is used to describe a loud argument on the field during a game. Also in 1951, Paul Douglas made a cameo appearance in another baseball film, the Paramount Pictures release ''Rhubarb'', co-starring Douglas's real-life wife Jan Sterling .
