Information About

Alexander, Prince Of Lippe

He was born in Detmold the seventh child of Leopold II, Prince Of Lippe ( 1796 - 1851 ) and Princess Emilie of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (1800-1867). He succeeded as Prince of Lippe on the 20 March 1895 following the death of his brother Prince Woldemar . However Prince Adolf Of Schaumburg-Lippe was immediately appointed to act as Regent of the principality because Alexander was suffering from a Mental Illness and was unable to rule. In 1897 , after a commission under King Albert Of Saxony on the subject, Prince Adolf was replaced as regent by Count Ernst Of Lippe-Biesterfeld (1842-1904). Count Ernst ruled as Regent until his death in 1904 , Ernst's son Count Leopold Of Lippe-Biesterfeld was appointed to replace his father, and ruled as regent until Prince Alexander's death in Sankt Gilgenberg on the 13 January 1905 , which brought about the extinction of the Lippe-Detmold line, with Count Leopold of Lippe-Biesterfeld succeeding him as Prince of Lippe.
