Alex Sink




Adelaide "Alex" Sink is Chief Financial Officer for the state of Florida . Elected in 2006, Sink is reponsible for managing Florida's tax revenue estimated at $74 billion. As a member of the four person Financial Services Commission, she oversees appointments in the fields of financial and insurance regulations for the state. Additionally, she serves as State Fire Marshall.

Sink is a former president of Florida's largest bank, Bank Of America . During her seven year tenure, she was reponsible for more than $400 million in deposits and over 9000 employees. She was appointed by former Governor Lawton Chiles to the Commission on Government Accountability to the People, and also served on Governor Chiles’ Commission on Education.

Sink was vice-chair of Florida TaxWatch , a group whose mission is to advocate fiscal responsibility in state government. Sink's civic involvements have included service with the Florida Chapter of the Nature Conservancy , the Beth El Farm Workers Ministry, and as Chairman of the Board of the United Way of Hillsborough County .

Raised in North Carolina , Sink is a graduate of Wake Forest University . After graduating with a degree in math, she taught in West Africa for three years. She is the wife of Bill McBride , the 2002 Democratic nominee for Governor Of Florida . Sink and McBride have two children, William (Bert) McBride and Cheryle (Lexi) McBride and reside in Thonotosassa, Florida .

Sink has been mentioned as a future candidate for Governor.


Endorsements

During her campaign, Sink was endorsed by 16 of Florida's leading newspapers, and the '' Orlando Sentinel '' gave a second endorsement the day of the election. Alex Sink was also endorsed by former Republican Comptroller, General Bob Milligan. The office of Comptroller, which Milligan held, was later folded into the duties of the Chief Financial Officer.
