Alec John Such (born November 14 , 1956 in Yonkers, New York ) was the Bassist for the band Bon Jovi . He left the band in 1994 and has not been officially replaced. According to interviews with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora in an episode of Behind The Music , Such was dismissed from the Band due to unsatisfactory performance during live Concert s. Also his quality of session recordings during the '' Cross Road '' Album were a contributing factor to his dismissal from Bon Jovi. However, viewers were not able to hear his side of the story; he declined to be interviewed by the show. Before Bon Jovi, Such played with fellow Bon Jovi member Richie Sambora in a band called Message and in Phantom's Opera with Tico Torres and Dean Fasano of Message and Prophet. Hugh McDonald took over Such's position as bassist, having already played on several albums from Bon Jovi's Debut onwards. However, he is not an "official" member of the band, since the members agreed not to officially replace Alec. Hugh does not appear on album artwork or publicity shots. After leaving Bon Jovi, Such has managed a couple of local New Jersey bands, and also owns a Motorcycle shop in New York City . Alec briefly rejoined Bon Jovi on stage at a 2001 concert at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. Lead singer Jon Bon Jovi has made it public that there has been contact between Alec and the band recently. There were also the gossips that in fact Hugh McDonald played on every Bon Jovi album (his name figure on every Bon Jovi record's credits, except 7800° Fahrenheit ), or even that on Slippery When Wet and New Jersey there are the bass lines played by Richie Sambora. Anyway Alec John Such is known as author of one of the most hypnotic bass lines in rock history - the one in Livin' On A Prayer . |
