is a 1976 hit song by the Starland Vocal Band , written by Bill Danoff , featuring Close Harmony and sexually suggestive lyrics. It became a number-one U.S. Billboard Hot 100 single on July 10 , 1976 .
Concurrent to the Starland Vocal Band's version, country singer Johnny Carver had a Top 10 version of his own on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Singles chart.
In the 1990s and 2000s, "Afternoon Delight" was featured in several film and television shows, albeit often in an ironic sense, such as ''''.

- 1987: In the movie Dragnet it plays while Dan Aykroyd 's character is romancing the heroine, The Virgin, Connie Swial.
- 1994: In the movie '' PCU '', the song is used as a form of torture.
- 1996: In episode #112 of the FOX comedy series , a hitman ( David Herman ) tries to remember the song playing in his head while looking for his target. The song is Afternoon Delight.
- 1997: In the motion picture '' Good Will Hunting '', the main character Will Hunting (played by '' Matt Damon '')is forced to visit a hypnotherapist. At first he pretends to be under hypnosis by telling a youthly trauma, but soon he converts his story into the lyrics of Afternoon Delight and finishes by singing it, showing he was pretending to be hypnotised.
