Workshop Europe is a 2 year international youth drama project. In it, teenagers and artistic directors from 4 different European countries(Scotland, Poland, Germany and the czech republic) all devise short theatrical pieces in individual country groups and then come together at regular international meetings to share their work and discuss the future of Europe. The four atristic directors are - Kieran Gillespie of Collusion theatre company in Glasgow, Scotland. - Simone Neubauer Of theatre Junge Genetarion in Dresden, Saxony, Germany. - Hana Simonova of Prague, The czech Republic and Adam Sajnuk of Warsaw, Poland Regular international meetings take place to show work going on at home, and also have included a large theatre festival in Prague. The project will culminate with a huge Theatre festival in Dresden, Germany in the summer of 2006. The project has been critically aclaimed as a fantastic way for the future citizens of Europe to explre their ideas on Europe in an artisic and challenging way. They have all also developed their linguistic, theatrical and social skills and made lifelong firneds and contacts. The following projects have occured thus far - Meeting at Gut Frohberg in Dresden, Germany - 18th to 22nd November 2004 - Meeting in Serock, near warsaw, Poland - 7th to 12th March 2005 - Theatre festival in Prague, The Czech Republic - 20th to 26th June 2005 - Meeting in New Lanark, near Glasgow, Scotland - 4th to 11th March 2006 The particpants have all built up a certain rapport with each other and know that they communicate with each other in the future : "The Friends that i have made through this project will last me a lifetime. although its only a 2 year project, I know that I will stay in contact with all of the participants for years to come. The skills i have learned have also benefited me in an amazing way, and have been a deciding factor in my career choices and in my lifestyle. I have learned to apreciate people from all over Europe, and my Interest in European politics is double that of what it was before." - Callum Smith - 2 year participant. The rpoject exists through support from several different theatrical and artistic projects and departments in Germany, and this support has meant that particpation is open to all, with participents simply having to pay a small contribution to the overall cost. To fund the recent (and most expensive) meeting in scotland a grant of several thousand Euros was acquired from the European Union. Although due to end in July, workshop Europe has been a powerful and exmotional project for all involved, and is likely to continue in the future, with enw participants, all having some of the great oportunities that the past participants have had. |
