We believe that God is the creator and sustainer of all things and that Jesus Christ is the only redeemer of our fallen world. As a covenantal school, we are committed in partnership with home and church to a quality education based on these truths.
We believe that our curriculum provides an academically diverse student body with knowledge in the traditional liberal arts and the skills and wisdom to apply that knowledge. Teachers are committed to designing and employing creative teaching strategies to meet this goal.
We believe that a complete education transforms knowledge into practical action. The essential outcomes of our educational perspectives are the development and application of Christian character through leadership training, community service, cocurricular programs, and the building of relationships.
We believe that trust, respect, and open communications are the foundation for both the school and community atmosphere. We expect staff and students to exemplify biblical standards in their attitudes and lifestyles and to take personal responsibility for the growth and development of others.
On
September 7 ,
1976 ,
Westminster Christian Academy opened its doors - for the first two years in rented classrooms at
Missouri Baptist College - to 72 students. The opening was the culmination of several years of planning and prayer by a number of families, many of whom were members of the
Reformed Presbyterian Church , Evangelical Synod (RPCES), who desired a Christian secondary education from a Reformed perspective. Several of the founding Board members were associated with
Covenant Theological Seminary in
Creve Coeur , the national seminary of the RPCES (In
1978 , the RPCES was received by the newly formed
Presbyterian Church In America ). The founding Board of Directors, who received incorporation from the
Missouri on
September 8 ,
1975 , included the following: Lee Brown, Rex Brown, Bobby Duck, who oversaw the finances for nearly a decade, Synesio Lyra, who had earlier helped to start Covenant Christian School (now Twin Oaks Christian School), Robert Luedde, Robert Miller, James Routszong, Patrick Tharp, Al Thomas, and three professors from Covenant Theological Seminary, Joe Hall, Robert Reymond, and George Knight.
The 30 acre Westminster Campus in
Creve Coeur ,
Missouri , serves as the primary campus for the school. Purchased in
1984 , the former West Ladue Junior High School building was a perfect fit for the growing school.
In
1999 , the school started an $11 million construction and renovation project. In this, the school added a new gymnasium, new student commons, new senior and 8th grade hallway wing, new weightlifting facility and locker rooms, new bookstore, and new offices. Dubbed the "Creve Coeur Campus", the building has over 150,000 square feet, a 25 yard indoor pool, library, two gymnasiums, cafeteria, academic and administrative rooms, and outdoor sports facilities.
In
2002 , Westminster purchased the old West County Technical College in
Town And Country and has plans to renovate the space to serve for future growth of the school.
Though not known particularly for its athletics, the upper school fields 9 men's teams, 11 women's teams, and 2 co-ed teams that compete as part of the
Missouri State High School Activities Association .
Westminster hasn't had any teams win a state championship. However, several have earned top four honors at the state level.
In addition, two athletes have won an individual state level title.
One of the highlights of Westminster Christian Academy is the success in the
Center For Civic Education 's annual
We The People competition. The team, coached by Mr. Ken Boesch, has represented the state of Missouri 8 times at the national competition, placing second in 2002.
This year, Westminster again will represent Missouri in
Washington D.C.
