Western Armenia or '''Ottoman Armenia''' was the Armenia n part of the Ottoman Empire . Following the Russo-Turkish War, 1828-1829 , when the eastern part of this territory was Ceded to the Russian Empire , the remaining Ottoman Armenia was also referred to as Western Armenia. Since 1878 , it was referred to as Six Vilayet s (''vilâyat-ı sitte''), containing territory of Erzurum , Van , Bitlis , Diyarbakır , Kharput , and Sivas vilayets. However, Western Armenia had lost its Armenian majority under years of Ottoman rule and centres with Armenian concentration did not have geographical continuity (parts of Van, Bitlis, and Kharput vilayets). There were also significant communities in parts of Trabzon and Ankara vilayets bordering Six Vilayets (like in Kayseri (Gessaria)). An Armenian stronghold and a symbol of factual Armenian autonomy, Zeitoun (Ulnia) was located between the Six Vilayets and Cilicia . Borders of Armenia drawn by Woodrow Wilson at the Treaty Of Sèvres incorporated parts of Erzurum, Trabzon, Bitlis, and Van vilayets, securing Armenia an outlet to Black Sea at the port of Trabzon. The distinct Western Armenian dialect of the Armenian Language is spoken primarily in Turkey , the Levant and in the Armenian Diaspora . SEE ALSO
