Information About

West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

In 2006 , WVU Tech announced that it was withdrawing from the league and moving to the NAIA . The conference then renewed a study of expanding outside of the state. On March 10 , 2006 the Pennsylvania colleges Seton Hill University and The University Of Pittsburgh At Johnstown (Pitt-Johnstown or UPJ) were made members of the league. These two schools will become full members in the fall of 2007 . All other member schools announced their intent to stay in the league. The school is considering applications from other schools outside West Virginia.

Its postseason basketball tournament, which was first conducted in 1936 , is the oldest college postseason tournament in continuous existence—predating the NCAA Tournament ( 1939 ), the NIT ( 1938 ), and the NAIA national championship ( 1937 ).
