Information About

Welford Road Stadium

The Leicester Tigers moved there 113 years ago and has been there home ever since. The club house is located on the Aylestone Road with the other sides having stands built on them.

The Crumie Stand was built in the 1920s with the terrace being added later. The stand is named after the club's secratery who built the stand, Tom Crumbie . The members' stand is now called the Next stand and built on the side of the ground ajoining the former Granby Halls site; this stand was also built in the twenties.

The newest stand is the Alliance and Leicester Stand, which was built on the Welford Road end of the ground and was completed in 1995. The ground is home to many bars which are packed on match days and the clubs own retail shop.

In 2004 , the Tigers announced a plan to abandon Welford Road in favour of a groundshare at Walkers Stadium with the city's main Football club, Leicester City F.C. However, the two clubs could not agree on which one would have priority at Walkers Stadium, and formally shelved the plan in 2005 . The Tigers now plan to purchase the freehold of Welford Road and expand the ground, pending planning approval.
