Waverly is a Town located in Franklin County, New York , USA . As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,118. The Town of Waverly is on the west border of the county. HISTORY The Town of Waverly was formed in 1880 from part of the Town Of Dickinson . Half its area was lost on the erection of the Town Of Tupper Lake (then the "Town of Altamont") in 1890. GEOGRAPHY The west town line is the border of St. Lawrence County, New York . The town is within the Adirondack State Park . The St. Regis River flows through the town. According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 327.4 Km&2 (126.4 Mi&2 ). 324.4 km&2 (125.2 mi&2) of it is land and 3.0 km&2 (1.2 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.92% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 1,118 people, 449 households, and 294 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 3.4/km&2 (8.9/mi&2). There were 854 housing units at an average density of 2.6/km&2 (6.8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 99.19% White , 0.00% African American , 0.27% Native American , 0.00% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.00% from Other Races , and 0.54% from two or more races. 0.27% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 449 households out of which 31.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were Married Couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% were non-families. 26.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.04. In the town the population was spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 101.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.7 males. The median income for a household in the town was $26,591, and the median income for a family was $31,875. Males had a median income of $29,688 versus $18,750 for females.
