Information About

Walter (von) Mcgee

Walter (Von) McGee was a professional kickboxer of German birth who relocated to Palm Beach, Florida. A 5 feet 11 inch, 160 pounder, McGee's footnote in kickboxing history is solely as the fighter who ended the longest first round knockout streak in the sport's history. His career spanned from 1983 to 1985 and there after he vanished from the scene.

THE BERGMAN FIGHTS

On July 22 1983 , McGee, reportedly undefeated in Germany, met Sherman (Big Train) Bergman who was riding an eleven consecutive first round knockout winning streak. McGee was knocked down only seconds into the fight by Bergman's "Sling-Shot Punch". Up at the count of seven, McGee was promptly down again. It seemed only a matter of seconds that McGee would be first round KO number twelve. However, to the shock of all, McGee arose and began to tie-up Bergman, mauling him endlessly to survive the round. McGee came out for round two and began to batter his opponent, causing both his eyes to swell almost shut. Bergman was unable to comeout for round three due to his eye injuries and McGee was awarded a technical knockout victory; thus ending the longest first round knockout streak. Two months later, McGee was knockedout in twenty five seconds by Bergman and in their rubber-match in 1985, McGee was again KO'd, this time in thirty seconds.
