Information About

Voice Commerce

Voice commerce is transacting using Internet communications. See Voice Commerce Group web site.

The voice traffic is carried over an Internet connection using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology and this enables commercial transactions to take place using voice and an Internet connection. A typical voice commerce application would involve a web site which operates as a shop window, with a click to call button enabling the browser to talk directly to the shop. In more automated environments voice commerce may include a combination of VoIP, an eCommerce solution, and Voice Recognition software.

Until broadband communications became widely available it was difficult to carry good quality voice over the Internet. Now VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology is becoming more prevalent it can be combined with eCommerce to create voice commerce solutions.

Voice commerce can take place over any Internet-enabled communications device – a PC, a laptop, a PDA, a mobile phone, a smart phone.

Note: voice commerce may be abbreviated vCommerce and v-Commerce. An alternative definition of vCommerce is "user interaction with a commercial Web site that incorporates voice recognition technology". vCommerce can also stand for virtual commerce.
