Virginia, County Cavan




It is located along the N3 Road between Navan and Cavan on the shores of Lough Ramor . It lies 80 km from Dublin , and it was a stopover point for the coaches going from Cavan to Dublin in the 19th Century . In more recent times, Virginia is connected to the capital by an hourly bus service from Bus Éireann .
Lough Ramor is one of the largest lakes in Cavan streching approx. 5 miles x 1mile. It is a popular lake with anglers and a wide variety of fish species are to be found including pike, bream, roach, hybrids, pearch, trout and eel. In recent years the qualtiy if the angling has declined due to the illegal netting and killing of large numbers of fish almost exclusivly by Eastern European immigrants.
