Villa Isola - Upi

HISTORY

ARCHITECTURE

The construction was quite fast at that time. It was started in October 1932 and finished in March 1933 . Filled steel skeleton was used to build this building. The windows are from steel and the floor is a concrete between iron bars.

It is hard to judge the overall architectural beauty at the moment, since this residential villa has been transformed into a rectorat for the University of Education Indonesia (UPI) Bandung, formerly known as IKIP (Institute for Teaching and Educational Science). The building has an amazing complex of garden, plants and waterfall that was built with high precision. Orchard flowers, padi terraces and a small pond complete with 5 black swans are now missing. It is now buzzing with classrooms, students, residential areas and road fulls of cars.

LOCATION

Villa Isola is located at the busiest road hub connecting Bandung with Lembang , a small city that is popular as a resort villas and hotels. The road also serves as a major gateway of the city.

Bandung lies at the foothill of mount of Tangkuban Perahu , while Lembang is at the higher ground. Thus Vila Isola lies perfectly in the middle of the hillside where the background is the active volcanic mount of Tangkuban Perahu.
