Villa Aldobrandini




Villa Aldobrandini, also known as Belvedere for its charming location overlooking the whole valley up to Rome, was built on the order of Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini, Pope-King Clement VIII's nephew, in the XVI century.

It was erected by architects Giacomo della Porta from 1598 to 1602, then Carlo Maderno and Giovanni Fontana completed the buildings.

It is the most famous Villa in Frascati , has an imposing XVIII century facade and some other interesting architectural and enviromental features, such as the double gallery order on the rear facade, the spiral-shaped flights, the large exedra of the Water Theatre and the magnificent park.

Inside there are paintings of 1600 Roman School and outside there is a monumental gate of C.F. Bizzaccheri (XVIII century).

Some Villa Aldobrandini's paintings ( Domenichino ) are taked care in the National Gallery of London.
