Some examples of this hijacks were:

---On November 22 , 1987 , during a newscast on WGN-TV someone wearing a Max Headroom mask jammed the signal and waved his hands in the air babbling and humming before the station switched to its back-up signal. This occurrence happened once again that same night on WTTW during a broadcast of the Doctor Who saga The Horror Of Fang Rock and this time he was still babbling and humming and ended with him getting hit in the butt with a fly swatter. He was never caught.

---Someone hacked HBO 's signal with the message "Good evening HBO, $12.95 NO WAY!! Cinemax and The Movie Channel Beware. Captain Midnight." The hacker was later apprehended.

In pop culture, parodied television hacks occurred on the MuppeTelevision portion of The Jim Henson Hour twice during a bit known as "Gorrilla Television".
