It goes back to the 1950s , and has long been known as the most dangerous street gang on the Los Angeles Westside . It was amongst the first Latino gangs to fight gang wars against African-American gangs, especially the local Shoreline Crips which were founded in the mid- 1970s . It is affiliated with the Sureños and the Mexican Mafia . With Gentrification transforming the formerly more downscale sections of the West Side, many of its rivals are either defunct (like Sotel, based in Mar Vista) or close to becoming defunct (Santa Monica X3, the Culver City Gang, and the aforementioned Shoreline Crips). "V13" as it is known has managed (so far) to survive the gentrification of Oakwood, and has established a presence in the Antelope Valley which has been a destination for many Los Angeles gang members from throughout the city. It is the last dangerous street gang on the West Side, and if current trends continue may be the only large street gang to survive anywhere west of La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles . |
