Vampire Slayer is a free multiplayer Modification for Half-Life . The game consists of two teams, slayers and Vampire s, who battle it out in various game modes. The game pits the speed and physical dexterity of the vampires against the weaponry of the slayers. Vampires can move quicker, jump higher, leap at opponents. Slayers are mere mortals but use traditional weapons to fight their enemy. Although vampires have no ranged weapons, their close up attack is deadly. Vampires can move quietly to get close enough to use this attack. Vampires cannot be killed with bullets alone so a slayer must first knock the vampire down and then move in close to stake them. If a vampire is not staked quickly enough they may recover and this often proves a very tense moment in the game. The game is played out in a large number of very atmospheric maps that add to the tension of the game. DEVELOPMENT Development began in the summer of 2000 with the first release on February 1st 2001. The game was designed and programmed by Mark Gornall with and additional small core development team consisting of Mark Gornall, Phil McClenaghan, Lily Gornall and Richard Taylor. Many players contributed maps which were included in the official releases over the years. The game continued to develop and release new versions until development ended with the release of Vampire Slayer: Chapter VI on September 6th 2004. R2 (RouteTwo) thanks the community : Thanks to members of the community who have remained positive, supportive and enthusiastic and helped out through the chapters, Ghostly, Razor, Rasak, deZ, Rex, Mari and Milenko. GAMEPLAY MODES
In this mode when you are dead you sit out until there are no players left on one team and then the other team wins the round. The next round will then start with all players included again. There is a time limit on each round so it is possible to have a draw.
A Deathmatch mode was added where there is a slight delay (configurable) before respawning. Players continually respawn until the map ends.
Based on standard Capture The Flag but with a more gothic twist, capture the cross allows a team to win the round by taking the opponents cross back to their base. When vampires are carrying the cross the cannot leap and take damage if they try.
This mode has certain objects in the map that can be destroyed to win the round. Often this will be in the form of coffins for the vampire team and some Holy relic for the slayer team. When slayers destroy Reliquary they must use their Stake weapon.
It is possible to combine these game modes, such that you can win a round by the traditional killing the opposition, stealing their cross or destroying their reliquary all within the same map if the mapper has designed it this way. CHARACTERS The character you choose when you play the game determines what weapons and skills you have. Each slayer has their own particular weapon set and each vampire has a special ability that only they can perform.
