On Trial (November 1903 ) Air Date....October 10, 1971 A strange Cockney girl arrives at Eaton Place claiming to be French and of noble descent. She is hired as under-house maid and renamed Sarah by Lady Marjorie Bellamy .
The Mistress and the Maids (June 1904 ) Air Date....October 17, 1971 Lady Marjorie sets in for a painting by Guthrie Scone a highly skilled painter. Sarah goes to his studio to deliver some dresses and a romance starts.
Board Wages (August 1904 ) Air Date....October 24, 1971 While the Bellamy's and the senior servents are away, the junior servents have a party where they dress up as the Bellamy's and mock a society gathering. James Bellamy returns home in the middle of the party. Later he and Sarah begin a short lived romance resulting in Sarah giving in her notice and leaving Eaton Place. Air Date....October 31, 1971 Elizabeth, the Bellamy's daughter, arrives home from boarding school in Dresden , Germany and is invited to social gathering where she is to be presented to The King and Queen . She creates a scandal by running away.
A Suitable Marriage (December 1905 ) Air Date....November 7, 1971 Elizabeth gains a new lover in a handsome young Baron. But he turns out to be a spy and has been using Elizabeth as a way to gain information about the British Government. Alfred, the Bellamys' young footman falls in love with the Baron and he falls for Alfred. Their secret love affair is found out by Rose Buck, the Head House Parlourmaid.
A Cry for Help (October 1906 ) Air Date....November 14, 1971 Richard discovers the new under-house maid, Mary, crying in the library and learns that she is expecting a baby after being raped by a friend of the Bellamys. Richard offers to help her which results in a scandal. Air Date....January 23, 1972 James's young friend, Captain Charles Hammond, escorts Lady Marjorie to the opera. She soon falls in love with handsome Captain and when he does with her, an affair begins.
I Dies of ''(or from)'' Love (June 1907 ) Air Date....January 30, 1972 Emily, the seventeen year old scullery maid, becomes friendly with a footman from a nearby house. But when Mrs. Van Grovan, William's employer forbids him to see her again Emily is heart broken. Unable to find sympathy from anyone in the house, she hangs herself in her small room on the same day the Bellamys have planned a picnic for the servents. The whole household is left in shock.
Why Is Her Door Locked? (October 1907 ) Air Date....February 6, 1972 Mrs. Bridges has a guilt induced breakdown (over Emily's suicide) and steals a baby from the front of a grocers. The Bellamys find out and not wanting to lose their faithful cook they personally returns the baby and offers the parents of the infant 'compensation'. Air Date....February 13, 1972 James and Elizabeth begin helping run a soup kitchen in the East End of London . While working there they discover Sarah, the former under-house maid. Feeling sorry for her they give her a job in Eaton Place again...as the new Scullery Maid . Air Date....February 20, 1972 James's friend, Captain Ryttsen, visits from Sweden . Sarah (who is now working as under house maid again) falls for him. He casts he under a spell, and when several valuable objects start to disappear she is suspected. In the end Sarah leaves Eaton Place again. Also known as "''The Danish Tiger''"
The Key Of the Door (December 1908 ) Air Date....February 27, 1972 Elizabeth meets a woman with liberal views an at her advice throws a party at 165 Eaton Place. Her parents return home in the middle of it and Elizabeth runs away. Air Date....March 5, 1972 Elizabeth is still missing after she ran off in the previous episode. Finally Rose finds her living with her friend, Henrietta Withchmore and her new lover Lawrence Kirbridge. The Bellamys invite them to dinner and are shocked to learn their plans to "live in sin". Lawrence proposes but she turns him down. Later Rose persuades her to reconsider and she does. In the end Lawrence and Elizabeth get married in the local church. |
