University At Albany Lacrosse




The University at Albany men's lacrosse team entered among the division 1 ranks in the year 2000 as a member of the America East Conference. Since then, In six seasons the Albany Great Danes have compiled an overall record of 48 wins and 36 losses. That is a .571 winning percentage. The Great Danes have also appeared in the NCAA Tounrament three times. In 2003, 2004,and 2005 the Great Danes won the America East Conference tournament, which gave them an automatic berth into the Division 1 NCAA Tournament. On March 16th, 2004 the University at Albany men's lacrosse team defeated the University of Massachusettes Minutemen. This was so significant because it was the first victory against a team ranked in the top 20. UMass was ranked #17 in the country at the time. Yet in the year 2005 the Great Danes posted wins over three top 20 teams. Albany defeated, #9 UMass, #14 Stonybrook, and #19 Dartmouth. These successes in the 2005 season led to an enourmas mile stone. On Monday April 4th, 2005 the University at Albany recieved its first top 20 ranking in any sport at the Division 1 level. The Great Danes lacrosse team were ranked #14 in the country according to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association or USILA. Albany continued its success and finished with its highest ranking ever, ranked #13 in the final USILA poll.
