Information About

United Airlines Flight 610

After completing its first 2 segments, Flight 610 departed crashed into the side of Crystal Mountain, about 50 miles NNW of Denver , where it skidded 690 feet to a stop and burst into flames.

After an extensive investigation, while it was known that the pilot
continued on the wrong heading after passing Cheyenne towards Crystal Mountain, the reason as to why he had done so could not be determined. Among the possibilities are that the pilot, in the darkened cockpit, may have selected the wrong audio frequency, which instead of giving him the appropriate radar signal, gave him the farther away frequency. Adding to this was the fact that both frequencies are identical to each other, so the pilot had no way of knowing whether he was listening to the right radar range.
