Information About

Umayah Ibn Khalaf

Before the advent of Islam, he became a friend of Sa'ad Ibn Mua'dh . With the advent of Islam, he started to Oppressed Muhammad and the other Muslims, for example Bilal , whom Umayah subjected to great torture.

Once, during the pre- Badr period, Sa'ad ibn Mua'dh, the chief of the Banu Aus , visited Mecca to perform his Umra with Umayah ibn Khalaf, his old friend who had not embraced Islam unlike Sa'ad. One day Sa'ad and Umayah were both on the way to the Ka'ba for making a Tawaf (circmambulation round the Ka'ba), when they came across Abu Jahl.

"Who goes with you," asked Abu Jahl of Umayya. "He is Sa'ad," said Umayya. Then Abu Jahl turned to Sa'ad and said, "You people have given shelter to the Sabaean". The non-Muslims of Mecca called Muhammad and the Muslims ''Sabaeans'', "the apostates".

Abu Jahl continued, "I cannot bear to see you step into the Ka'ba. By my God, you would not have returned home, had not Umayya accompanied you." Sa'ad replied, "If you let us not perform the Hajj , mind, we will stop your Medina route" (meaning the trade route to Syria ).

He was reportedly killed by Bilal, his former slave, in the Battle Of Badr .

His son, Safwan Ibn Umayah , became a Muslim after the conquest of Mecca.
