Turan () is a town in the Tuva Republic , Russia . Founded in 1885 by Russian settlers from Siberia ; town status granted in 1945 . The town is located 70 km north-west of Kyzyl , the republic's capital. The name of the town comes from the Turkic word for "saline land." There is an airport in the town. Population: 5,598 ( 2002 Census ). |
