Trout Lake in the interior of British Columbia is a Ribbon Lake located south-east of Revelstoke . At the north end is Trout Lake City which in the early 1900's was a mining boom town of over two thousand people. It now has only a handful of permanent residents and a number of cabin owners that come for the holidays, many from Calgary . The lake is apparently named after Trout mountain at the north end of the lake, which in turn is probably named after a military officer with the last name Trout. At the other end of the lake is the now abandoned town of Gerard, the breeding ground of Gerard Trout . Trout Lake is known for its fishing (primarily Dolly Varden Trout , and Kokanee Salmon ) and the Snowmobiling in the surrounding hills, which is reportedly some of the best in the world. Hot Springs are located approximately 30 minutes away on Highway 31 (later 23). There is a hotel and a gas station-convenience store within Trout Lake City. Long term residents do most of their grocery shopping in Nakusp , the nearest town, about 45 minutes away. EXTERNAL LINKS
