Unlike the 1991 Cohen tribute '' I'm Your Fan '', which featured a predominantly Alternative Rock and Indie Rock lineup of musicians, many of whom were particularly little-known in the American market, ''Tower of Song'' features a more mainstream program. The album was savaged by many music critics, who pointed out that the album's glossy mainstream pop approach badly distorted the context of Cohen's music. "Tower of Song" is also the name of a song by Cohen, that has been covered by Marianne Faithfull .
