Tower (code Lyoko)

DESCRIPTION

The towers serve as data processing nodes for the supercomputer, and as a link between Lyoko and the real world. By infecting these towers (usually one at a time, but sometimes more) Xana can attack the real world. Aelita , Jeremie , and Franz Hopper can operate the towers in the same manner, but nowhere near as skillfully as Xana. Xana can take over towers activated by Jeremie, and Franz can do the same with both Jeremie's and Xana's towers. Aelita is capable of deactivating any tower.

Each tower looks like a giant pillar with a base similar to a tree trunk. They are white with an aura surrounding it that changes color depending on who's using it. Around each tower are large, grey wires that lead back to Carthage . These wires allow anyone operating the supercomputer to activate the towers. Red energy can be seen pulsing through these whenever Xana activates a tower. The wires can be severed, which will isolate the tower from the rest of the system. This has only been suggested once, in the episode "Revelation", but none of the wires were ever cut. No matter what side someone enters from, they always end up at the same spot on the inside platform.

The inside of each tower remains the same, regardless of what or whom is currently using it. The walls are covered with various images of moving Binary Code . There are two platforms; one at ground level and one higher up. Both platforms have the Eye of Xana printed on them. The upper platform has an access panel (called an interface) that floats in mid-air. The interface allows someone within Lyoko to access the outside world.

Around each tower is an aura that changes color depending on who it's being used by. If the tower is not being used or is being used normally by Aelita, it glows blue. She can't access the full potential of the towers this way. This is the normal state for any tower. When Xana activates a tower in order to attack the real world, it glows red. When Jeremie activates a tower, it glows green. Finally, when Franz Hopper activates a tower, it glows white.

Once a tower has been activated, Aelita has the ability to deactivate it. Deactivating a tower resets it to its normal state, shifting the aura around it to the normal blue. Xana can deactivate its own active towers if it wishes. It's done this several times, most noteably in the episode "Revelation", where it deactivated the tower that spawned its Polymorphic Clone . The clone had travelled to Lyoko and no longer needed the tower to exist. Xana can also deactivate towers activated by others, but its method is far less subtle than Aelita's. All it needs to do is send Megatanks to the tower in question and have them attack it until it shuts down completely. This has only been done twice so far; once in "Code: Earth" and again in "Contact".

Whenever a return trip takes place, all the code seen on the walls of the tower drops down to the bottom of the tower. The code will then explode into a light-blue bubble and expand through the tower. The white bubble seen in the real world follows it.

The passage and exit towers in each sector have an extra function apart from linking to the real world. Passage towers allow the inhabitants of Lyoko to travel from the current sector to the exit tower in any of the other three main sectors. All someone has to do to use this feature is jump from the lower platform into the data stream below. The data stream will then carry them to the exit tower in the sector of their choice. Carthage is the exception to this, and can only be accessed through use of the Transport Orb. Xana was able to have a polymorphic clone, disguised as Franz Hopper, send the group directly to Carthage once, but this is an ability only Xana possesses.

The various towers scattered about Lyoko seem to manage various functions of the supercomputer. Though most of them have unconfirmed functions, it has been noted that the passage towers manage the memory for the three scanners. They seem to be considered neutral, along with the exit towers, and have only been infected in the final episode of the second season, "The Key", when Xana gained the keys to Lyoko. The towers can also be used to analyze those in Lyoko provided that they stand still in the middle of the lower platform. This is referred to as digital scanning, and is used on Yumi in the episode "Missing Link".

LOCATIONS

According to the '' Code Lyoko '' DVDs, each of the towers is numbered and in a specific location. So far, only nine have been given exact locations. Since there seems to be no specific pattern to their order, the numbers of the other towers cannot be extrapolated from the numbers given.
