Torres is a city located at the northeastern shore of Brazil in the state of Rio Grande Do Sul . It is 197 Kilometers away from Porto Alegre , the capital. POPULATION
Total Number of Electors - 18300 electors CLIMATE The Climate in Torres is divided into two very marked seasons. From October to April it is very hot and dry (24°c-36°c) and the rest of the year is cold and humid (8°c-20°c). GEOGRAPHY Different from the rest of state’s the shore, which is an uninterrupted sandy beach, Torres presents four mountains that fall into the sea. These vertical walls are almost 40 meters high and present several caves created by the action of the waves along the years locally called furnas. ECOTOURISM It is possible to visit the "Ilha dos Lobos" (Island of the Wolves) which is located directly in front of the Praia Grande beach approximately 1700 meters off shore and it is very pleasant to practice Hiking along near by moutains of the Serra Do Mar . SURFING Torres has some of the best surf spots in the state. Some of the best Brazilian surfers are from Torres. The Surfing conditions are improved by the presence of rocky the mountains and other geological formations which provide natural protection from strong winds and create good sea bottom shapes. The best season for surfing is the winter (may-sep) with waves up to 3 meters high and cold water. During the summer the waves are smaller and the northeast wind usually jeopardizes the surfing conditions. It is possible to practice Tow-in in a point break near Ilha dos Lobos and waves as high as 8 meters have been registered there but the access is difficult and good conditions are rare. HOT AIR BALLOON Currently, Brazil is the Latin country with bigger number of hot air balloons and hot air balloonists, there are about 45 hot air balloons for 30 registered Pilots divided into three hot air ballooning Clubs located in São Paulo , in Rio De Janeiro and Belo Horizonte . Since 1989 Torres sponsors an annual hot air balloon festival, and in 1995 during its seventh edition, the city gained the title of "Brazilian Capital of Hot Air Ballooning". EXTERNAL LINKS |
