Alter was uniquely talented for his fluency in Hindi and knowledge of Indian culture. He worked for noted filmmakers like Richard Attenborough in '' Shatranj Ke Khiladi '' and Ismail Merchant . In the 1993 film ''Sardar'', Alter portrayed Lord Mountbatten in this biography of Indian leader Sardar Patel that focused on the events surrounding the partition and independence of India . Since then, Alter has played Indian characters in Indian television series. In the long-running ''Junoon'', Alter played the sadistic mob-lord ''Keshav Kalsi''. |
