After starring at Indiana University , the 6'7" Abernethy was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the third round of the 1976 NBA Draft . He spent five years in the league as a member of the Lakers and the Golden State Warriors , scoring 1,779 career points. He played high school basketball at St. Joseph's High School in South Bend.
