Information About

Time-variant System

The following things can be said about a time-variant system:
  • Has explicit dependence on time.

  • Does not have an Impulse Response in the normal sense. The system can be characterized by an impulse response except the impulse response must be known at each and every time instant.

  • It is not stationary

''See Time-invariant System for examples and how to prove if a system is time-variant or time-invariant.''

EXAMPLES OF TIME-VARIANT SYSTEMS

  • The human vocal tract is a time variant system, with its transfer function at any given time dependent on the shape of the vocal organs. As with any fluid-filled tube, resonances (called Formant s) change as the vocal organs such as the Tongue and Velum move. Mathematical models of the vocal tract are therefore time-variant, with transfer functions often Linearly Interpolated between states over time.

''TODO: list some real-world examples of systems that are time-variant.
