The story deals with six people from the year 2037 who are unexpectedly thrown into a strange world. It is Earth, but divided at random into different time periods. Over the course of the novel the main characters meet such historical personages as Genghis Khan , Alexander The Great , and lesser historical figures like Rudyard Kipling . However this small population seems to be all there is. Scattered throughout this mix of worlds are giant metallic orbs which are inexplicably hanging in the air. Mysteriously, though they appear to be perfectly spherical, the Circumference to Diameter ratio of each of these "eyes" is not Pi , but rather, exactly 3. Stephen Baxter Novels |
