The House With Chimaeras

The House With Chimaeras or '''Gorodetsky House''', was built in the period of 1901 - 1902 . The building was designed and lived in by the architect himself, Vladislav Gorodetsky . It is located on ''10, Bankova Street'' near the president of Ukraine's office in the Pechersk district of Kiev .

Due to the nature of the steep slope the building sits on, the building had to be specially designed out of concrete to fit into its foundations correctly. The Italian sculptor Salya Elio designed both the external and the internal sculptural decorations. The building is commonly referred to as "The House With Chimaeras" because it contains various scenes depicting exotic animals and hunting scenes which are made out of cement.

LEGENDS

One legend has it that Vladislav Gorodetsky's daughter had committed suicide in the Dnieper River because of either some unfortunate love or of a family feud. As a result, Gorodetskiy went slightly mad and built this gloomy house for his daughter's memory.

Another legend is that an architect, Nikolay Dobatchevskiy , built the House With Chimaeras. However, Gorodetskiy's signatures were found on the drawings, which proves that the house was actually built by Gorodetskiy himself.

And a third legend, was that Gorodetskiy made a bet with some other architects, who had tried to prove that is is impossible to built a house on such breakage, because the place near the Ivan Franko Theater which is nearby, was once a lake. Eventually Gorodetskiy won the bet.
