The Deserter is the 16th episode of '''' first season. When who has abandoned the Fire Nation. Aang attempts to use this time to attempt to learn how to firebend, but when the firebending master refuses to even see Aang, will Aang be able to prove he’s ready to learn how to firebend despite his lack of discipline? EPISODE SYNOPSIS When Aang and his friends go to a Fire Nation festival so that Aang can witness some firebending, their plan soon goes awry when it’s discovered that he is the Avatar. Fortunately, he’s rescued by a man, Chey, who serves a firebending master named Jeong Jeong who has abandoned the Fire Nation, so Aang attempts to use this time to attempt to learn how to firebend. However, when the firebending master refuses to even see Aang, the sprit of Avatar Roku appears before Jeong Jeong and convinces him to teach Aang firebending. Aang is anxious to learn faster and disobeys the fire master's instructions. Aang accidentally burns Katara because he didn't know how to control the fire that he created. Katara runs away crying, and Sokka follows her into the forest. Katara tries to cool her hands from the burn in water, and miraculously heals herself. But during this time Admiral Zhao and his men catch up to the camp, and the admiral and his men start to fight Jeong Jeong. Aang finds out from Katara that Jeong Jeong is in trouble and runs to help him out. While fighting, Jeong Jeong and his men escape, and Aang makes the Admiral destroy his own ships without realizing what he is doing.
