The museum is "dedicated to furthering the understanding of mankind's creative achievements in the Textile arts." Founded in 1925 by George Hewitt Myers, the museum normally receives between 25,000 and 30,000 visitors each year. The museum started with 275 rugs and 60 non-western textiles, but today has over 17,000 objects dating from 3,000 B.C. to the present. It's housed in the Tucker House designed by Waddy Wood .
