Baragwanath is best known for establishing He Huarahi Tamariki, a school which aims to give "a second chance" to teenagers whose education was interrupted by unplanned childbirth. She founded He Huarahi Tamariki in 1994 , having studied similar schools while on an Eisenhower Fellowship to the United States . Previously, she was deputy principal of Porirua College , having graduated with a BA , an MA , and a Diploma in Education. In recognition of her work, Massey University awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2005 . Baragwanath is now attempting to launch a political career, standing as a candidate for the New Zealand First party. She is contesting the seat of Auckland Central, and is ranked eighth on New Zealand First's list. |
