Charlemagne marched across the Catalan Pyrenees toward Zaragoza in 778 , joined by troops led by Sulayman. Husayn of Zaragoza, however, refused to surrender the city, claiming that he had never promised Charlemagne his allegiance. After a month of siege Charlemagne decided to return, carrying some hostages from among the allied Muslims that not had informed to him adequately, between them Sulayman. Charlemagne suffered a first assault from the Basques in central Navarra , with the consequent reprisal consistent in an assault on Pamplona , for finally to see his army annihilated in Roncesvalles August 15 , 778. The children of Sulayman, Aysun Al-Arabi and Matruh Al-Arabi collaborated with the Basques in the assault releasing to their father. In 780 Sulayman was killed by his ancient ally Husayn of Zaragoza
