As of July 2005, SAMHSA's Administrator is Charles G. Curie, M.A., A.C.S.W., who was nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in October 2001. Mr. Curie reports to HHS Secretary Michael Levitt.


CONTROVERSY

In February 2004, the administration required the name change of an Oregon mental health conference from "Suicide Prevention Among Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender Individuals" to "Suicide Prevention in Vulnerable Populations."
