Unlike most of the strongly Republican surrounding areas, Sprague voted for Democrat John Kerry in the 2004 US Presidential Election . HISTORY Sprague was officially incorporated on November 28 , 1883 . GEOGRAPHY Sprague is located at 47°17'56" North, 117°58'39" West (47.298974, -117.977532). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 1.6 Km&2 (0.6 Mi&2 ). 1.6 km&2 (0.6 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 490 people, 216 households, and 130 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 300.3/km&2 (780.8/mi&2). There were 242 housing units at an average density of 148.3/km&2 (385.6/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 93.47% White , 0.00% African American , 2.65% Native American , 0.41% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 1.63% from Other Races , and 1.84% from two or more races. 2.65% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 216 households out of which 26.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.5% were Married Couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.4% were non-families. 32.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.92. In the city the population was spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 21.6% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 21.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males. The median income for a household in the city was $29,079, and the median income for a family was $31,750. Males had a median income of $30,833 versus $21,875 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $15,912. 13.2% of the population and 8.9% of families were below the Poverty Line . 21.4% of those under the age of 18 and 6.6% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
