Maxim Gorky was a Soviet Red Banner Light Cruiser of the Kirov Class , named after Maxim Gorky . It was laid on December 20 , 1936 , launched on April 30 , 1938 and commissioned on October 25 , 1940 . In 1941 the ship have been severely damaged by a Naval Mine , but regained its floatage and arrived to Tallinn and then to Kronstadt . After being repaired, the ship participated in the Battle Of Leningrad , where it launched 27 shellings, at which ca. 30 Tonne s of shells have been shot. 126 shellings were launched by ship in total and 2,311 shells of the main caliber were shot. During the war ''Maxim Gorky'' was commanded by officers A. N. Petrov, I. G. Svyatov and A. G. Vanifatyev. The ship was actually decommissioned in February of 1956 . GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
