Southwestern College is a small Christian institution of Higher Education located in Phoenix, Arizona . HISTORY OF SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE On 2 February 1960, Phoenix-area pastors of the Sun Valley Conservative Baptist Association held a meeting to discuss the possibility of opening a nearby denominationally-based college. After further meetings, the pastors agreed to begin college-level instruction beginning in the Fall semester 1960. Originally, classes were held in a local Baptist church while leaders developed a 35 acre campus in Paradise Valley West. The college made continual strides, and in 1975, the Arizona State Board of Education approve the institution's burgeoning program of education. As the years progresed, Southwestern continued to add new programs at attract a wider cross section of students. Today, it remains a fully accredied degree-granting institution. As of 2005, Southwestern offers degrees at the bachelor's level in: Chrisitan ministries, business administration, behavioral health, Biblical studies, education, family studis, and music. STUDENT LIFE Students are required, as of 2005, to be Born-again believers in good standing in a Christian church. Regularly-scheduled chapel attendance is mandantory for full-time (at least 12 Credit Hours ) students, as well. The college also requires that students maintain a minimum standard of conduct based on Biblical principals including abstiance from extra-marital sex, alcohol and drugs, and a promise that they will not view or listen any form of media (including movies and music) that would be "immoral or spiritually debilitating."
