Southwestern Christian University

Origins

Southwestern was founded in 1946 for Christian church leadership by the International Pentecostal Holiness Church . It was originally located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and called Southwestern Bible College.

the 1960's

By the 1960s the college had developed a junior college program and was able to open its doors to an expanding student body.

the 1980's

However, in 1981 the college decided to refocus the institution. The governing body ended the schools junior college plan and went back to its original design as a Biblical training college. In addition to this they moved locations to the Oklahoma City suburb of Bethany, Oklahoma . At this time the schools name changed from Southwestern Bible College to Southwestern College of Christian Ministries.

2000 to Present

In 1998 the school had implemented a program to change the face of the school in the next 5 years. The outcome was seen in 2001 when the school changed its name to Southwestern Christian University. SCU has expanded outside of the parameters of Bible College to become a full Christian Liberal Arts University.
