Information About

South American Temperate Race

The 19th century naturalist Louis Agassiz 1807-1873 in his book Essay on Classification (1851) defined the South American Temperate race to be the indigenous peoples in South America. He believed all animals, plants and human "species" (races) could be classified by climatic zones. He identified the South American temperate as a climatic zone, so defined the indigenous people living there to be a distinct "species" (race).
