Sound Adirondack Growth Alliance

The Wal-Mart corporation backed down from its plans to build in Saranac Lake then, but in 2006 announced new plans to build a 121,000 square foot supercenter on Lake Flower Avenue. In large part because of the closure of the town's only discount retailer, Ames , in 2002, SAGA is no longer anti-Wal-Mart but is instead for "smart" growth. SAGA in 2006 works to educate the community about the effects Wal-Mart would have on the community and to challenge the proposed size, appearance, infrastructure, impact on tax payers, impact on police protection, and other issues.

SAGA meets weekly, with Susan Cooper as chairperson and photographer Mark Kurtz as spokesperson.
