The album was met with critical acclaim, but never reached the commercial success that most had anticipated. The album was raved about in the underground hiphop loop, with such tracks as "Nature of the threat", a seven minute rant which really presents the intellectual power of Ras Kass. Many saw the lack of guest appearances and subpar production of beats as the reason why this album never really kicked off. Also the absense of a lead single also attributed to that. Ras Kass' debut album was not seen as a total success, but by no means a failure.
After a few years the album was pulled from shelves. Record executives say that they pulled the album due to poor success, but many conspiracy theorists believe that the album was pulled so that the album would not reach the public fully because of its true content on white on black racism through time. Either way, the album is almost impossible to find on any store shelf in America. Soul on Ice must be found on sites like eBay and Amazon.com. The CD can be found ranging from $40-$50, though some copies, which are rare last albums ever produced, are almost reaching $200 dollars. The vinyl version is exceptionally rare, and is usually at a price at $100 or higher. Most people can download the CD version or iPod version, but most internet rips have clicks and skips. If you find the original CD, buy it if you can. Soul on Ice is projected to grow in price ever year because the album becomes rarer and rarer to get.
