The term son of a bitch or '''son-of-a-bitch''' is a form of Profanity usually used to refer to an individual who is nasty, rude or otherwise offensive. It is slightly different from the word it derives from, Bitch , in that the word "bitch" can be used non- Pejorative ly to refer to a female dog (and the term is still used in that sense by dog breeders) while this term is usually only pejoratively used, i.e. it is used in context to mean an Insult . It also is used as an exclamation or in an exclamative pretext. The phrase has come up in informal discussions on America n Foreign Policy in regards to U.S. support of Dictator s and repressive Regimes around the world, who are called "our son of a bitch" by detractors. The use of the phrase in this way originates from President Franklin D. Roosevelt talking about Anastasio Somoza Garcia , the President of Nicaragua that Somoza "may be a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch" with the respect that, while he and his family were brutal and repressive tyrants, Somoza was an Anti-communist leader, a friend to the U.S., and helped protect American interests. |
