A son is a Male Offspring ; a Boy , Man , or male Animal in relation to his Parent s. The Female equivalent is a Daughter .

In many Pre-industrial Societies , a higher value was attached to sons rather than daughters, the reason being that males had higher Social Status and were Physically Stronger .
