Information About

Snow Coverage

Typically, when there is a Snowstorm in action, Local Media (especially television) will usually devote "team coverage" to the Snow event. This will often cut into local programming. The coverage usually consists of predicting how much snow will fall, assessing local Traffic condition, School and business closings, how the road crews are handling the snow cleanup, and how residents are dealing with the snow. Often the local station will place its reporters outside as the storm is taking place.

Snow coverage typically draws Ratings for local television stations. However, snow coverage is also criticized by many as not being of much value for the amount of effort the media devotes to it. Many also see television stations "hyping" a storm up in order to draw viewers to their upcoming team coverage. "Incorrect predictions" on snowstorms are often pointed back to local media as their attempt to hype a storm.

Snow coverage has also been used as model for other types of team coverage related to the weather such as Hurricanes and Earthquakes.
