ABOUT SILICON IMAGE

Headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., Silicon Image, Inc. is a leader in the secure distribution, presentation and storage of high-definition content. Silicon Image offers robust, high-bandwidth semiconductors in the global PC/display, consumer electronics and storage arenas based on its innovative digital interconnect technology.

Silicon Image creates and drives industry standards for digital content delivery such as DVI, HDMI, UDI and SATA, leveraging strategic partnerships with global leaders in consumer electronics and personal computing.

Silicon Image’s strategy entails establishing industry-standard, high-speed digital interfaces and building market momentum and leadership through its first-to-market, standards-based integrated circuit (IC) products. The company broadens market adoption of the DVI, HDMI, UDI and SATA interfaces by licensing its proven intellectual property (IP) cores to companies providing advanced system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions that incorporate these interfaces. Silicon Image has become one of the top 10 semiconductor IP licensing vendors in the world, according to Gartner Inc.
STANDARDS

HDMI
Developed by Hitachi, Matsushita (Panasonic), Philips, Silicon Image, Sony, Thomson and Toshiba as the digital interface standard for the consumer electronics market, the HDMI specification combines uncompressed high-definition video and multi-channel audio in a single digital interface to provide crystal-clear digital quality over a single cable.

UDI
The unified display interface (UDI) is targeted to become the new display interface for desktop PCs, workstations, notebook PCs and PC monitors, replacing the VGA analog standard and providing guidelines to ensure compatibility with today’s DVI standard.

DVI
Pioneered by Silicon Image and introduced by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG), DVI is the de facto digital video interface standard for connecting PCs to digital displays.

SATA
SATA is the first hard disk drive interconnect designed to work both internally and externally. Driven by an industry group that includes Silicon Image, SATA has become the standard drive interface for desktop PCs and is establishing a significant presence in notebook PCs, consumer electronics and enterprise storage applications. SATA offers a number of benefits over Parallel ATA interfaces, including higher bandwidth, scalability, lower voltage and narrower cabling. Using external SATA (eSATA), manufacturers of external storage solutions can now offer performance on a par with internal drives.

KEY INITIATIVES

Simplay HD™ Testing Program
Comprised of many of the largest names in consumer electronics, the Simplay™ HD Testing Program enables manufacturers to test high definition (HD) consumer electronics devices to achieve compatibility for the highest-quality HDTV experience. Independent of manufacturer or brand, HD devices bearing the Simplay HD logo have been tested for compatibility and High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) functionality to maximize access to premium HD content.

SteelVine™
SteelVine™ Storage Processors radically alter the landscape of storage solutions available to the consumer electronics, home, SOHO and SMB markets. SteelVine Storage Processors deliver enterprise-class features in an appliance-like solution that is simple, reliable, affordable and expandable.

Licensing
Leveraging its expertise as the pioneer and market leader of the popular HDMI and DVI standards and as an innovator and driver of the SATA interface, Silicon Image licenses its silicon-proven IP cores to system-on-a-chip (SoC) designers to help them quickly integrate industry standard interfaces into their SoCs. All cores are fully documented and supported by a dedicated engineering team to ensure a smooth integration process. Announced Silicon Image licensees include ATI Technologies, MediaTek, Micronas, Novatek, Renesas, Samsung, Sigma Designs, Sunplus, Trident and Weltrend.
