GEOGRAPHY


Shenandoah is located at 30°10'47" North, 95°27'19" West (30.179855, -95.455175).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 3.3 Km&2 (1.3 Mi&2 ). 3.3 km&2 (1.3 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,503 people, 504 households, and 441 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 460.6/km&2 (1,191.1/mi&2). There were 532 housing units at an average density of 163.0/km&2 (421.6/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.21% White , 1.13% African American , 0.60% Native American , 1.20% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 1.33% from Other Races , and 1.53% from two or more races. 7.32% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 504 households out of which 36.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 78.8% were Married Couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 12.5% were non-families. 11.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.96 and the average family size was 3.17.

In the city the population was spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 32.0% from 45 to 64, and 8.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $72,813, and the median income for a family was $76,116. Males had a median income of $51,250 versus $30,966 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $26,421. 3.0% of the population and 1.8% of families were below the Poverty Line . 4.4% of those under the age of 18 and 2.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.


EDUCATION

Shenandoah is served by the Conroe Independent School District .

Areas of Shenandoah are zoned to Oak Ridge and Houser Elementary Schools, Vogal Intermediate School, York Junior High School, and Oak Ridge High School (east of Interstate 45 )

Other areas are zoned to Lamar Elementary School, Wilkerson Intermediate School, McCollough Junior High School, The Woodlands High School (West of Interstate 45). Shenandoah is also served by North Harris Montgomery Community College District .
